How to obain a small fig

Asked by joholi

Hi,
I am a beginner of madanalysis5. I use the user-friendly framework to plot the distribution figures.

Using the following command,
Plot PT(a[1])
set selection[1].stacking_method = normalize2one
set selection[1].titleX = "P_{T}^{\gamma}"

I obtain the photon distributions of transverse momentum. I have two problem:

1. The fig is very big, and has 21 M. I can not put this fig in our paper. How to obtain a distribution fig which is smaller than 1 M

2. Although I replace "a" with "\gamma", but "\gamma" is not displayed well. How to make the fig to be more beautiful.

Best

That's a feature of root that is not that good in saving eps file. png files are also available in the PDF directory, and thei size is super small. You could also modify the selection_0.C file and save the figure under the PDF format.

In my case, it is correctly displayed and I cannot reproduce the issue. In any case, you can modify selection_0.C and put directly what you need for the axis title.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.

I replace "a" with "\\gamma" in the selection_0.C. I run root with ".x selection_0.C", and produce a beautiful and small fig. I save the figure under png format, it is ok. However, saving it under pdf format, notation of photon is not displayed in the fig of pdf. What is wrong?

Many thanks.

Hi,

This is definitely something related to root. I am afraid that I do not know how to fix it, but you may find the answer on the root forums.

Cheers,

Benjamin

Hi,

I have some new findings. I keep the default setup of fig, the fig of eps is 10 kb for the madanalysis5 and root. If I replace the "a" with "\\gamma" in the selection_0.C in order to display the notation of photon like "TEX", the fig of eps will reach 21 M for madanalysis5 and root. Only "a" is replaced with "\\gamma", and this makes the file of eps becomes 21M from 10 kb.

Is there a good way to display the photon like the "TEX".

Many thanks

Hi,

All of this is really related to root (so that I cannot really help). Can't an "a" instead of a "\gamma" be fine? Otherwise, you can get the information out of the saf file (text-file format with the histogram) and plot it with your favorite program.

Benjamin

For this, you need only a small modification. Only "a" is replaced with "\\gamma", and this makes the file of eps becomes 21M from 10 kb or so. This is quite helpful. In past I used this for: https://botanylive.com/various-types-of-pollution/

There are multiple ways. However eplace "a" with "\gamma", but "\gamma" is not displayed well. for reference you can see this on: https://botanylive.com/various-types-of-pollution/

Can you help with this problem?
