About MadAnalysis

Asked by amine shady

Hi there,

I am using MadGraph aMC@NLO. When I finish running my process, I want to do some data analysis using MadAnalysis5.
In the paper arXiv:1206.1599v2 and other tutorials, they ask to go to the MadAnalysis directory and to launch it you just have to use the command bin/ma5

It doesn't work for me. Instead I get this error message: -bash: /bin/ma: No such file or directory

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Amine

Hi,

Looks like you forget to write the 5.

If this is that or not, I redirect this thread to the madanalysis5 team, who might be more expert than us to solve your problem.

Cheers,

Olivier

Hi Olivier,

Indeed, but it was just in the example I used to ask the question. But the problem is still there

$ bin/ma5
-bash: bin/ma5: No such file or directory

Thank you,
Cheers,

Amine

Hi Benjamin,

This is what I got:

ls -l bin
total 12
-rwxr-xr-x 1 abenaich cms 1263 févr. 10 03:55 mg5
-rwxr-xr-x 1 abenaich cms 5841 févr. 10 03:55 mg5_aMC

It seems that there is no MadAnalysis in bin file!!
But I still need to use MadAnalysis.

Cheers,
Amine

Dear Amine,

In order to run MadAnalysis5, you need to install it first. You can download it from here:
  https://launchpad.net/madanalysis5

Cheers,

Benjamin

Dear Benjamin,

I downloaded MadAnalysis5. Then un tar it.
What I found in the directory madanalysis5 is: bin COPYING madanalysis README tools version.txt

I couldn't ./configure it and install it on my system.

Cheers,
Amine

Dear Amine,

Please have a look to our wiki page and to the manual (https://madanalysis.irmp.ucl.ac.be/wiki) in order to get how to use the code. It is sufficient to type
  ./bin/ma5
and you do not have to configure anything.

Regards,

Benjamin

Dear Benjamin,

When I install MadAnalysis from MG prompt, the plot_card.dat appears.
But when I install MadAnalysis5 separately, plot_card.dat disappears.

when I type ./bin/ma5 I get this everytime:

How many cores for the compiling? default = max = 4
   Answer:

............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

I have 4 cores so I answer 4, it compiles MA then I get the prompt.
I import an *.lhe.gz file, I type: plot MET and it doesn't plot anything.

So in summary:
When I install MadAnalysis from MadGraph prompt, I found MadAnalysis installed and not MadAnalysis5, and I get plot_card.dat. and in MadAnalysis directory when I type ./bin/ma or ./bin/ma5 I get "bash: bin/ma: No such file or directory"

When I download MadAnalysis5, untar it, I type ./bin/ma5 I get the message above and I have to compile it but when I do that MadAnalysis doesn't work, and worse, I loose plot_card.dat.

Dear Amine,

You are confused between madanalysis 4 (installed from MG) and 5 (installed separately). In order to run madanalysis 5, please have a look either to the manual or to same of the talks that we gave at schools (for instance here: https://cp3.irmp.ucl.ac.be/projects/madgraph/wiki/NCTSSchool2014 ). Everything is explained in there. Once you designed your analysis, you must type submit to exectute it, and then open to browse the results.

Cheers,

Benjamin
