plotting differential cross section

Asked by Antony Martini

Dear MadAnalysis team,

I need to plot a missing transverse energy distribution. To do this, I would like to have a differential cross section \frac{d\sigma}{d E_T^{miss}} on the y-axis (and MET on the x-axis of course). My problem is that MadAnalysis only produces a number of events on the y-axis and so I would like to know which commands I have to enter in order to get my y-axis?

Thanks a lot,

Antony M.

Dear Antony,

In the case you want a differential cross section instead of a number of events, it is enough to pick up the right luminosity and bin size.

Benjamin

Thansk for the answer. I have already use

set main.lumi = 19.5 // I've put a number randomly to test

and I don't have the feeling to get what I want...

Maybe it was not your point?

Hi Antony,

I was simply suggesting to tune the bin size and the luminosity so that the number of events equals the cross section.

Hello Benjamin,

Can you please give me more details on how to change the luminosity and bin size?
I have imported the LHE file. I can change the luminosity using set main.lumi = <value>
What is the next step to make sure y- axis of a plot is not number of events but the differential cross section ?

Dear Bithika,

There is no unique answer to this question. The luminosity is set in fb^{-1}, while the bin size depends on the required setup for your plot (min, max and number of bin). Note that the cross section is given in pb. The rest is a matter of multiplying things together.

Cheers,

Benjamin
