License Issue

Asked by Shay Perets

Hello. My name is Shay and I work for IBM. I want to use unetbootin-windows-299.exe internally for my work at IBM. I am not including this in a product but only using internally. Does this qualify as a "free software project" or is this a "closed-source or proprietary projects"?

I think XBMC uses the same approach, the include binaries of other open source projects like ffmpeg, check what is the status of this app.

Hi Shay,

If I understand, you are asking about licensing issues with the 'Universal Netboot Installer' project.

If you visit https://launchpad.net/unetbootin you'll see the software for that project is licensed with BSD, GNU GPL v2, GNU GPL v3, and MIT. These licenses permit the type of use you describe -- simply using the software but not redistributing a modified version.

Your question about proprietary use is only important in Launchpad if you want to start a new project.

Brad
