Webcam Ubuntu Netbook Remix Sylvania MESO

Asked by Isao Higashide

I recently purchased Syvania Netbook MESO run by Ubuntu Netbook Remix.
I am unable to open the built-in webcam. I clicked Fn+Esc per Sylvania instruction.
It does not work.
I go to Favorite>Cheese and "Webcam is not recognized" is shown.
I attempted many a way, but webcam is dead.
Can anyone help me please?

I just ordered a meso from amazon, because it came with ubuntu pre-installed, my assumption being if it is preinstalled, all the hardware will work out of the box. I sure hope this is the case! If this is a serious issue witH the webcam, I'm cancelling my order! The webcam configured for ubuntu was one of the big selling points! Please keep me posted about the solution to this....

I have made a very nice contact with an individual at Canonical. And he gave me this information. That might be of help.

This was the contents of his reply email:

Hi Judah,

I believe a reason your unit was on backorder was due to this BIOS fix (I heard) was being done for the web cam. I would also run the updater in Ubuntu when you get it as there was a fairly large update we added to UNR 1.0 a two weeks ago. If you have a problem out of the box, please call the Sylvania support line as they can help you as well.

Regards,
