Unable to retrieve bug report 952941

Asked by Philip Gray

Hi

I am getting this error 'modem-manager crashed with SIGSEGV in g_utf8_validate()' when I try and connect to the net using my Huawei E220 USB modem. I found a number of bug reports in Google which have all been cancelled and have a note referring to bug #952941. When I try and retrieve this bug report I receive a response that says it does not exist. I am trying to find a solution to my modem bug. Bugs # 980233, 962566 and 959966 refer.

Regards
Philip

Hi the bug you're referring to is a private bug which you don't have access to view, there is currently a bug open about to have a better UI https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/434733

Hi Laura

Thank you for yr prompt response I appreciate it.

Why do the other bug reports that I mentioned refer to a private bug report? I feel that since those reports are in the public domain the report referred to
should also be in the public domain. It is both logical and reasonable that a person who has that problem/issue will click on that link to see if there is a
response that will help resolve their issue.

I believe that it is incorrect to add a link to a page that the public cannot access. It does not make any sense. I will have a look at the link you inserted
into yr email. What I find puzzling is that you refer to a bug report about a better UI (User Interface). To me a UI means the desktop, keyboard and mouse not
a modem connection. My issue and the bugs I referred to, in my mind, do not refer to an UI issue but to a modem connection issue.

Until I can resolve this issue I am stuck with the horrible, un user friendly and inefficient Unity desktop which I hate with a huge passion. I want to install
another more efficient and user friendly desktop like Mate, Cinnamon. The Unity desktop is the worst desktop I have ever seen. I feel you folks are
going backwards not forwards. So for me my modem issue is a critical issue. I will now go and launch yr link.

Best Regards
Philip

The Launchpad staff does not have permission to see other project's private bugs, nor can they subscribe you to other projects private data.

This issue is caused by Ubuntu's policy to mark bugs duplicates of private bugs. You can talk to someone in the Ubuntu community about getting access to the bug, or ask them to create a public version of the bug that can be seen by everyone.

Good morning Curtis

This does not answer my question. I am seeking an answer to how to solve my bug. To date all I am getting from Lauchpad is the proverbial run around
and not an answer which is very disappointing.

Philip

Philip, I'm sorry you feel that way, launchpad is the tool to track the issues, your bug is with Ubuntu who use launchpad to track the issue. As Curtis has already pointed out you need to talk to someone in the Ubuntu community to get access to the bug or ask them to create a public version of the private one as the bug linking that is currently being worked on which I linked earlier on in the blog post and also on the other bug has yet to land.
