Appointing Launchpad Bengali Translators team in the Launchpad Translators group

Asked by Mahay Alam Khan

Hello,

I've created "Launchpad Bengali Translators" team. I have to name it lp-l10-ben; since someone had used two letter code and created one man team without any publicity and asking for participation amognst bengali localization community. The Bengali localization community is spreaded in two country - Bangladesh and India.

The team is moderated.

A welcome note (in Bengali) is there with informaiton to join.

For the time being, we will use the Launchpad mailing list for the team as a Team communication.

We shall adapt and localize the general Launchpad localization guidelines as team's guidline later.

Initially I shall coordinate and have subscribed to Launchpad Translators mailing list.

Please, apoint the Launchpad Bengali Translators team (https://launchpad.net/~lp-l10n-ben) in the Launchpad Translators group

Thanks in advance

Hi mak,

Thanks for the interest in translating applications in Launchpad and for
creating the team.

The team looks good to me. However, now we have two teams for Bengali
translators, which will be confusing to new translators wanting to join
the community.

Before creating the lp-l10n-ben team, did you try to communicate with
the lp-l10n-bn owner?

I'd like to ask you to talk to him. If the team is not active, he should
probably transfer ownership to you (it's just a couple of clicks process
he can do in Launchpad), and you guys should use that team and then we
can remove lp-l10n-ben.

Do you think you could do that? Then we'd just appoint the lp-l10n-bn
team.

Thanks!

Communicaiton have been made. Things went very nice.

The team owner is very cooperative, he made me an administrator of the lp-l10n-bn team and given permission to move forward and do whatever is needed. Let him be the owner and approve the team.

I did all that needed. Changed the name of the team, the team is now moderated and a Bengali intro along with joining instruction is there.

You can now remove lp-l10n-ben.

Thanks mak_ for addressing all of the points.

I have now appointed the team to be responsible for Bengali translations
in the Launchpad Translators group.

I've got a couple of suggestions:

      * Team owner. You are saying the previous owner is going to
remain. We always emphasize the figure of the translation team
coordinator, who leads the translation team, takes care it keeps
going and forwards any relevant announcement to the team. It is
just my feeling that given that the previous owner is not very
active you might be better suited as the team coordinator. If
that is the case, I'd recommend that you become the team
coordinator. For him, it will not make much difference: he can
remain as a team administrator. It is simply that then you'll be
listed automatically as the team contact and will be able to
appoint new administrators. To reassign the owner is as easy as
        https://launchpad.net/~lp-l10n-bn/+reassign
      * Team contact. As a team coordinator, we (or new translators)
might have to contact you, so it would be advisable to have a
stable e-mail address visible to logged-in Launchpad users. Do
you think you could deactivate the "Hide my email addresses from
        other Launchpad users" checkbox from
        https://launchpad.net/people/+me/+edit ? Again, this address
will only be visible to logged-in users in Launchpad.
      * Guidelines. Once appointed, the team is going to be one of the
few ones [1] without guidelines. I know you are mentioning that
you're going to use the general ones, but those are thought only
as an example for teams to create their own. If you or no one in
your team has time to work on guidelines right now, I'd
recommend at least translate the general ones in Bengali and use
those. Note that guidelines help teams provide better
translations, and as such are very important.
      * Ubuntu translators. If the same people who are translating
Ubuntu are also translating Launchpad applications, you can
simply add the ubuntu-l10n-bn team as a subteam of lp-l10n-bn.
      * Launchpad translators mailing list. If you haven't already,
please remember to subscribe to the launchpad-translators
mailing list to stay up to date with the latest news and
announcements regarding translations in Launchpad. You can
simply do that by joining the launchpad-translators team [2]

If you could look into those, that'd be awesome. Apart from the
guidelines, they shouldn't take more than just a few minutes.

As per the removal of the lp-l10n-ben team, I've just requested it here
[3].

Happy translating!

Regards,
David.

Dear David,

Thanks for appointing the team for Bengali translations.

As you suggested

- The previous owner is very much cooperative and made me the owner of lp-l10n-bn team.
- I've made my email addresses public to logged-in lp users.
- I will look if anyone in the team helps me to come up with our own guidelines, or else I shall start from next month.
- Ubuntu Bengali translators team is a sub team of Launchpad Bengali Translators team.
- I'm already subscribed to Launchpad translators mailing list.
