Could you provide basic instructions for setting this up?

Asked by TenLeftFingers

Hi,

I've been trying to connect unseccessfuly, but I think the issue is that my movies are shared by Samba and this scope needs xbmc/kodi to be running?

Anyway, it wolud be great if some basic instructions could be maintained here. I will add the m myself if I figure it out. Also, would you object if I added a feature request for the scope to find movies on samba shares?

Edit: I'm using Kodi v14.2 Git 7cc53a9
I've enabled the control of XBMC via http as well as every other option (UpnP, Zeroconf, etc)

Hi tenleftfingers!

Thanks for your question and your interest!
As you described your setup (Kodi v14.2) it should be easy for your to get my scope running. I assume, that you are able to switch to kodiscope, which is already installed on your device (Ubuntu touch BQ for example), but you don't see any cards (icons with movie description). Am I right?
If so see https://myapps.developer.ubuntu.com/dev/click-apps/1642/ (or look for kodiscope screenshots on https://uappexplorer.com/). Screenshot #3 shows the gearwheel in the upper right corner of the scope. Click on it and put the IP address of your Kodi server into the text field (see screenshot #1).
Then go back via button in the upper left corner. Swipe to the button of the device for the scope data update and you should see the cards of recently added movies to your Kodi database (or alphabetically sorted movies).

If you don't see the scope scards, you probably have to open the firewall(s) in your network... (this was the case for the guy, who put the negative rating to my scope :-()

Otherwise: enjoy! Just ask me in case of any question.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter,

Apologies for my late reply, but I never got notified by launchpad like I do for bug reports.

A new update just came on the BQ E4.5 device and I tried again, but same result. So then I changed the 'disabled&cleanup' to 'with thumbs' and now I can see them and play movies locally on the device!

This is an incredible piece of software that not many people know about I'm sure. Thank you so much and I'll spread the word :)

I do have another question. mp4 seems to stream nicely but avi wants to be downloaded entirely first by the browser. Should I file a bug against the browser for this?

hi TenLeftFingers!

You made my day! Thank you!
I am not sure if it is a bug and Canonical wants to support avi in html5 browser, because avi formats bring problems like no support for future frames.

Cheers from Zurich
Peter

PS: Just contact me if you need help in converting to mp4. Download and opening in media player is working?

Thank you Peter!

Avi does not work at all because the browser asks which app to open with, but only suggests the Gallery app. It then downloads the .avi to .cache/com.ubuntu.gallery/HubIncoming/4/
The Gallery app doesn't show the movie afterwards so it is inaccessible.

I used the Terminal app to move it to the Videos directory, but for other users this could be problematic.

Is this okay for converting?: https://www.miksoft.net/mobileMediaConverterDown.php

Hi TenLeftFingers!

But if the avi file is played via gallery, there will be no issue not (!) to file a bug in the browser's launchpad site to support video download in proper directory. Am I right?

Peter

Hi Peter!

I'm not sure if I understand your question but I'll try to answer it. The browser does download it, yes. The Gallery app can list it when I move it to the correct location. So I think you're saying the issue is that the browser needs to handle the download differently and that this is the bug I should report?

Thanks again,
Ten

Hi Jarlath (right? Irish? :))!

I guess without the manual move of the file you are not able to open avi files. Right? Let me check also.
If so, I think manual movement doesnt make sense and must be opened a bug.

Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter!

Yes, Irish - good guess :) (You are from a nordic region?) You are correct about the manual move being necessary too.

Let me know how it goes or if I can provide more info.

PS you still got problems with thumbs? May I help you in this case? I got to know if image path is correct. Btw transferring file to your box is done via adb pull...

Thanks Peter,

There are very few people with this name, what a coincidence!

Thank you, I've added a comment to that bug with my scenario.

I could use help with the thumbnails - I'll reply to your email now.

Best,
Jarlath

Hi Peter,

Me again :) I have converted my collection to mp4 but some titles only play audio in the browser when I choose 'Watch locally'. Is it a case that the container is okay but not the video format contained within?

Many thanks,
Jarlath

Hi Jarlath,

I am using most movies with mp4 container with low resolution. HD movies are only working on my desktop for example. I did not have any time to find out which files are supported by Ubuntu app and which not...

Regards
Peter
