changing shape of images

Asked by Calross

I want to change an imported image from its current square shape to an irregular shape i.e. so that the two opposite sides are not parallel. Is this possible?

Answer is 'Yes'

Draw desired shape above your image, then select both path and image
and choose Object~> Clip ~> Set.
Actually it doesn't modify your original image, it only place a
'window' of desired form above image, so you could see only part of
image within the clipping path.

Thanks for the reply. I have used 'Object->Clip->Set', however I am
looking for something that will allow me to reform the image as well
not just put a shape around part of the image. Is this possible?

Well,

Actually transformation of bitmaps limits to resizing, turning,
clipping and masking.
Are you remember - Inkscape is Vector editor, so it's basically
concentrate on vector images.
Although some filters and extensions exist, but in fact it work with
visual representation of your bitmap, not with transformation (tools
for which I mention above).

So I advise you to render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's (i.e.
use bitmap editor (GIMP for example) for bitmap editing work)

I don't know what the various terms mean - I want to use the software, not learn a whole new technology. I run 2 businesses now; I don't have the time to learn a new tech. SO - I cropped an image in a circle shape. I want to import that round shape. How do I do that? Every time I import the file I saved, I get a square 'thing' with my round clearly visible inside it.

Can you help with this problem?
