Microsoft word is a program, not a format. It uses .doc format, that is a word processor format, not an image format.
You can't simply convert "SVG to Word". You have to export to a image file format compatible with word.
Word imports PNG images, so exporting to PNG files should be ok.

If you want to preserve the vectorial format, you'll have to use the "save as" or "save a copy" command selecting a compatible vectorial format.
I don't use Microsoft Word (I use OpenOffice instead) so I can't help you on what vector formats does Word accept.

Hi Jim,

To export as PNG use File>Export Bitmap, and enter a filename ending in '.png'.

Word should also be able to import 'Enhanced Metafile' (EMF), which is a vector format. You can save in this format via file>save as, but you may lose some details as EMF doesn't support some features such as blur filters.
