Cannot save any Inkscape .svg files either a new file or edit an old one and re-save

Asked by Denise Deault on 2018-07-15

I've created many docs in Inkscape both as .svg and exported as .png in the A4 size template. Now I'm going back and rejigging all of these images into letter size and renaming them as such. This has been working fine up until this past Friday (13th). Now I'm not able to save any new file - it tells me that the extension doesn't exist! I even tried creating a new doc in inkscape and saving it as a drawing.svg on my desktop and it still tells me that the file cannot be saved! UGH! I just can't see what I'm going wrong or what's changed to cause these disruptions! Help! I'm sure its the most simplest of answers but I"m hoping someone can help me?

Can you upload a screenshot of your Save... dialog and one of the error message to an image hoster and share the links here, please?

Great! Can you share what the problem was, for people who came here using a search machine?

As humbling as it was-my Windows 10 Defender has a new Ransomware Protection option. Within it there is a Control Folder Access. I had inadvertently set it to control (ON) so any new items (which included new docs) were not recognized-hence why I continued receiving that error message. Once I changed it to the OFF position - I was finally able to edit and save!!

Hopefully this might help any one else in the future!

I wish everyone a fabulous day!!

Ah, that sounds like it was really difficult to find - I don't think I'd ever have guessed that!
