Intermittent failure to print

Asked by Bob

Inkscape v 0.92,...Windows 7 Pro.... quad core, 64 bit, 156 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD.....all updates to Windows and Inkscape are current.

From time to time, I will have an inkscape item that issues an "internal error" notice and forces me to shutdown, often loosing all my unsaved work. This usually occurs when I am trying to send things to the printer. There is no relative information in the notice, and I can open another drawing and it will print just fine. I use inkscape daily and this occurs about once n every 50 or 60 drawings...very erratic. I am old and tired and consistently prepare my drawings without anything fancy..no transforms ore weird objects in the drawings.

I can send this to a pdf file and print from there, but often the drawing sizes are very specific and scale is more important than content. When it goes to a pdf file, control of scaling is virtually lost...requiring me to print and re-print some drawings several times. I would like to print directly from inkscape without all the workarounds or trying to beat the system.

Is there a way that I can troubleshoot what is going on to help find the problem? Can you suggest an alternative to the pdf approach? I can send a sample of a failing (to print) file for you to look at.

I'm surprised to hear of scaling issues with pdf... I regularly save a copy as pdf and cut on lasers with reasonably high precision.

Please post a link to svg and pdf files we can examine.

I added a copy of the SVP file to this question posting.  I have not converted it to a PDF yet.  Also, I really don't want to make a big deal about the PDF conversion and scaling.  Trust me when I say that it is enough of a problem that it doesn't work well for me.  Like you, I always thought that creating a PDF file SHOULD produce a printable item of exact size, but it does not.  This causes me to resize my SVP item and print it to see what size it will actually turn out to be.  If it is not correct, then I change the inkscape, reconvert it and re-print it until the printed size is correct.  I wish I was smarter, but I have accepted that I just have to work with what I get.
ThanksBob
