Problem printing a custom SVG ticket - is there image restrictions in Inkscape?

Asked by Carolyn Tobias

I am not having problem building/ importing the necessary logo - it even saves as our needed SVG file but the logo (while visable in the file) is not printing?

I am so new to Inkscape I don't know if there is a restriction on the graphics that may mess with the saving process?

I've tried both PNG and JPEG files - so I'm wondering if it's a size rather than format thing?

I would try saving a copy as PDF and printing that file from a pdf reader.

What is in your logo? Can you share a file? There are a couple of bugs related to line width and patterns that prevent printing/export of certain objects. We'd need to see the actual file to be able to give more specific advice.

I cannot copy the logo into this field ? nor the SVG file which did print on a random printer from Inkscape but not when exported and then attempted to print from the ticket printer

Carolyn, file attachments are not supported here :-(

Please find a file hoster of your choice for uploading the graphics. If you don't have a google drive, dropbox, etc. account, you can also use http://framadrop.org/.

Thanks, Carolyn.

Now some more questions:

- which Inkscape version are you using (Help -> About in Inkscape) (I had hoped to see the version info in the svg, but it has been saved as plain SVG, as far as I can see)?

- (Did you plan to vectorize the logo? It is an embedded raster image in the SVG, it is not vector.)

- What exactly do you get when you try to print? Can you share a photo of the printout or print to file and share the resulting pdf?

- What is your operating system?

Inkscape version: Inkscape 0.92 r15371

Can I ONLY use vector images in Inkscape? I tried various formats/ sizes but I don't believe I tried vector exclusively - is there are size restriction as vector files are typically larger?

Link to image of printed ticket (no image at all appears) - https://www.dropbox.com/s/dcan1m9l9uvrtsd/IMG_0671.JPG?dl=0

Operating system: Windows 10

Yes, you can use raster images in Inkscape - you already do in your file. But Inkscape is not well equipped to edit them, and Inkscape's advantages as a vector graphics editor lie in the vector format (i.e. you can scale the picture up without loss of quality, if all its parts are vector objects). Vector files are generally smaller than raster images, at least for the type of picture that is built in a vectro graphics editor. There should not be any size restrictions.

Is this a special type of printer that you're using for your tickets?

I'm linking to an exported pdf of the file, does that print normally (e.g. from Adobe Acrobat, or whichever software you use to display pdf files)?
https://framadrive.org/s/lxAdvwiBNbkWA7D (will expire on Oct. 5th)

Does it work better after an update to Inkscape 0.92.2 (the current version)? (uninstall completely first, then install the latest version).

What do you use to fill in the blanks? Some software seems to replace the %something contents. How does that work?
