crashes when opening

Asked by Edward Ingram

My suggestion is that when encountering a file that is unacceptable to Inkscape, instead of crashing, write a routine that checks file parameters ahead of time and than a message as to why it can't be opened. (so it can be fixed with an external editor; Gimp for instance.

Hi Edward,

Inkscape does this (a bit) when you run it from the command line. You can get more info if you type:

inkscape \path\to\your\file.svg

But yes, I agree, it /could/ be helpful to have those messages available for copy-and-paste.

Feature requests, as well as bug reports, should be made here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape

Kind Regards,
 Maren

"inkscape \path\to\your\file.svg" Are you suggesting I try to open up a
.jpg file from the command line?
I can certainly try it. But then why would you add the .svg extension? I'm
confused. Sorry that I don't think like a professional or
hobbyist programmer (who I admire greatly).

I tried to get it to mess up using command line, but all it did was open
the picture. I guess this might be a bug when opening from inside
 the program.

Then you can just start the program by entering 'inkscape' and open your file / import your jpg from there.

Sorry, but windows is a GUI based operating system.
I'm not going to start programs from the command line!
That was just to get error messages, (which didn't happen).

What do you fear will happen?

Not a fear. Just don't want the hassle.
