how can I open a file mistakenly saved as jpeg file?

Asked by kulez

I have opened a jpeg file with Inkscape. Then I have traced it and formed an inscape file. But while closing the file I saved it on the file which I have opened as a jpeg file. Now I can't open the file with any programme. How can I open my file?

Inkscape cannot save to jpeg, so if it saved your file, it did it as an svg. Try changing the extension of your file from .jpg to .svg

My file has a name:"obturator". When I look to properties of the file it seems as jpeg file. If I rename it as obturator.svg it seems as obturator.svg.jpeg at the properties window. I don't know how can I change file extension really.
I can not open the file with any picture program except GIMP. The file opened with GIMP has my picture but there is a grey mosaic background. May be changing the background can solve my problem. What will be your suggestion in this status?

If you are using Windows, you have to enable file extensions viewing.

Just open any local folder and press Tools>Folder Options>View and and remove the dot in the box listing 'Hide file extensions for known file types'.

Now you'll see that 'obturator' will had become 'obturator.jpg'. You only have to rename it to 'obturator.svg'.

I hope it works!

I forgot telling you about the 'grey mosaic background'. This is shown when an image has a alfa-channel (transparent) background, a feature of png images.

If you don't wanna have transparent background in your images, you have to change documents porperties in Inkscape. Open Inkscape and go to 'File>Documents properties...' and set background color under Page>General dialogue to #ffffffff (Pure white). Close the dialogue and you'll have solid white background in your document.
