know exact placement of object

Asked by juanmaroy

I have several instances of one layout, with almost similar objects. I have moved some objects in the main one, and I need to move the objects in the other instances, so that it looks exactly the same. How can I know the exact placement of the objects to copy it from one instance to other? I can't edit the guides' exact location to move them, so I will have to make it manually, object by object.
Thanks

Try doubleclicking on guides.
Use selector tool (F1) and see the second bar from top. There are it's location x and y coordinates.
See Edit -> Paste in place

Thanks a lot,

Double click in guides results in zoom-in movement. Is there any other procedure to open the guides location dialog?

I am going to try with the x and y coordinates, that is what I was looking for.

Paste in place doesn't apply in this case because the elements already exist, the shape is the same, but colours change.

Thank you again

For some tasks it may be easier to use built-in XML editor (Ctrl+Shift+X).

I use development version, on mouseover the guides light up and doubleclick opens a dialog (the only way to open it). This may or may not be the case for stable.

Hello Mahfiaz,

You are right, doubleclick works, with the mouse. I was working with Wacom digital pencil, and it has a programmed button for double click. That makes the zoom-in. May be it is another question to solve....

I'll try the XML editor.

Thank you again
