TEXT SELECTION ( A ) not working in Devel..46

Asked by jjaran

That's about it. Last night I was only able to type in what appeared to be a default font called SANS then I would need to select ( T ) and change to the font I wanted. Today the sans would not even work and the 144 size showed as a tiny dot. Is this a known bug? I guess I'll have to buy Corel.

To clarify- When choosing a font I found I have to set size to 300 to make the cursor to show larger. When I start typing the font changes to SANS.

I tried to install the bitstream vera fonts 1.10-latest but they were invalid or damaged. I don't see what this would have to do with the problem anyway per the other guys question.

The text selecting problems are known, reported and worked on.
Use Ctrl+T text selection dialog instead.

I would hope that text selection would be fixed soon. I do'nt think I have time to wait.

Sorry for my mistyping. I meant "Font selection" are known. I don't know of any text selecting problems. Change the font after you have typed something, this may work better.
And also, devel means development version, there is nothing wrong with it being unstable or not fully functional. For real work using stable is recommended, whenever possible.

I am using devel.. Font selection via ( A ) does not work as it immediately defaults to SANS. If I type in a sentence and select it;it cannot be changed to another font. Only single words can be changed. All this must be known by everyone.

Then you're posting in the wrong place, post a bug report please so the devs know there is an issue - you need to provide the example file and tell them your OS, exact version, etc..

I'm using "Inkscape 0.46+devel, built Apr 6 2008" (see Help > About).

Do you mean that selection via the button with the A-icon is not working? Your post is not clear to me.

Hi,
If this malfunction has not been reported yet then my input would fall on blind eyes.
Choose a font- start typing-see what happens-then fix it. The devel. people must know this. It's obvious!!!!!!???

Nope still don't get it. My sequence of events after opening a new document:

F8; click font drop-down list; select font; <Enter>; left-click on document area; type letters

The result is that letters appear in the chosen font in the document in the location specified. So whatever is supposed to be obvious is not to me. I'm not a dev but I'd consider myself to be pretty familiar with Inkscape having used it for what must be 5+ years (since before it emerged from sodi-podi). The only issue I hit is that when the font is selected with left-mouse-click a further use of <Enter> is required to actual set that font as the current one.

Will leave this for devs to pick up, if you don't give clear and specific information (eg OS, version, examples) then you're unlikely to get good help though. Perhaps I'm missing the elephant in the room? (Maybe mahfiaz can tell me what you mean?).

hello,
Well, How would I have known to hit-enter- to set the font but ,alas, as I clik the page to see the blinking line the selected font changes to SANS again and that is what types. When I open the A the font showing is sans.

Like mahfiaz said (a) dev realease expect glitchy-ness; (b) try entering text then altering the font, perhaps using the Ctrl-T dialog.

Hi,
You mean some users do not have this problem with Dev.46 ?  I did see that I could change one word at a time using T but not a whole string of words so that  method is limited and not acceptable. I ordered Corel x4. Good LUCK.

I mean I can get along with the font selector, I have never had something that I couldn't have been done, happily the text selector will be fine to release of 0.47 (that's what development version is for).
I also use corel for works which require CMYK colors. I have used it since then when I knew nothing about inkscape. I have found inkscape far more suitable for artistic work and even for technical drawings than corel. But corel also has it's good sides, like new tracer on photos or color pictures and perspective tool.

Good luck, and happy inkscapeing :)

jjaran, I know exactly what you are talking about..its soo frusterating. Im reading the post and seems like they dont have the problem we do. If i try to enter a font it defaults to Sans Style. I cannot change the font with drop down menu. I cannot select font later to edit with Drop down either. I have to use the Text editor and default the font i want, Which takes way to long to change fonts and very annoying. So this must be a bug or something even my font size box looks glitched! Anyway just letting you all know that jjaran is not crazy and im having th same prob.

Thanks.

Vivid, I have the very same problem. I simply offered a workaround, this is what really answers is for.
Defaulting to Sans usually happens when the font which is used for the element is not installed in your system. Then changing it from toolbar changer does not work at all.
