Tabs, Commands etc in Chinese. I want everything in English.

Asked by Jo Anna

I want all aspect of Inkscape to be in English. At present, on initial download, I had tutorials and some commands in English. The majority of commands and 'pull downs' and 'tabs' are in Chinese. Can anyone suggest how to rectify this?

Usually that is because your OS is set for Chinese. The base way is that if you want a different language for your UI, set it in your OS settings. This is simple in OS X and in Linux. For Win32 a work-around is to delete the locale data for other than English.

Hello Jon,
Many thanks for answering my question. Yes, you're right I do have my OS set to Chinese that is because we live in China. All computers are set to Chinese with English working in co-ordination with it.
In response, I don't really have the knowledge to 'get into' the OS to change the settings accordingly. If I did, what would happen to the other programmes using the current OS set up?
Additionally, I have another downloaded programme which is completely in English. As such, I don't need to make alterations to the OS. Hence my question, I was wondering if Inkscape had other ways of 'setting' everything to English.
Do you have any other solution?
Once again, many thanks for your assistance. Looking forward to hearing from you again.
Jo Anna

Thank to all who helped with my query re. overriding the language settings. Though I'm not into programming as such, I was able to disable the language settings in the 'locale' directory.
All menus etc. are now in English.
Once again many thanks to all for helping.
