Yes, open the image using Gimp, then save it in the format of your choice.

Thanks, but the image is not translating in Gimp....I just get a black box.
Any other suggestions?

Thank you

Yes, in inscape you can save the file in the GIMP .xcf format, then open in gimp, save to png, jpeg, gif.

Gimp does open .svg files for me, and I can see them. Maybe the functionality is provided by an additional package. I also have these installed:

gimp-data-extras, gimp-gap, gimp-gnomevfs, gimp-gutenprint, gimp-normalmap, gimp-python, gimp-resynthesizer, gimp-texturize, gimp2.0-quiteinsane

Good luck!

They are in the repo, all you have to do is:

sudo apt-get install gimp-data-extras, gimp-gap, gimp-gnomevfs, gimp-gutenprint, gimp-normalmap, gimp-python, gimp-resynthesizer, gimp-texturize, gimp2.0-quiteinsane

None of these answers (especially the first one) WORK...!
There appears to be no answer to converting a .svg file to .gif.
Your only hope is to draw the image in MS Paint (if possible) and save as a .gif.

Thanks.
I think the best way is converting your jpg/png image to svg (, then shrink the svg (vector image) in Inkscape.

Can you help with this problem?
