how do you add a rectangle backround to a picture

I import a picture into inkscape, but I need to add a black rectangle behind it. Any suggestions?

Hi Naz,

so the things you will need to do is to create a rectangle (with the rectangle tool, http://vektorrascheln.de/posts/2015/Dec/inkscape-fuer-einsteiger-teil-ii-praxis-en.html#the-rectangle-tool), then put it below the imported image (with the buttons that move things up and down in the stacking order, http://vektorrascheln.de/posts/2015/Dec/inkscape-fuer-einsteiger-teil-ii-praxis-en.html#changing-the-stacking-order-z-order).

To learn how to use basic Inkscape functionality, I suggest you take a look at the tutorials that come with Inkscape (Help -> Tutorials), or at any of the tutorials linked from http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php .
