Hi Noreen,
there are quite a few bugs associated with opening cdr files. Could you be a bit more specific and tell us:
- which operating system you are using, also: 32bit or 64bit
- which Inkscape version, also: 32bit or 64bit
- give us an example of the file you try to import (upload it to some file hoster and post a link, this answers section does not allow any file uploads)
(If you would like to research yourself, start here:

Kind Regards,
Maren

The file is in the link below. I am using version 0.91 of Inkscape. I'm not sure if Inkscape is 32 or 64 bit, how can I check? My Mac OS X version is 10.11.4, 64 bit. Thanks!

Do you happen to know if the file opens with Corel? To me, the error messages I get from Inkscape and from Imagemagick on the command line sound a bit as if the file were broken.
Adding the tracebacks at the bottom for archiving purposes. You do not need to read or understand the following, Noreen.
(and a warning for everyone who tries to open this with libreoffice: It's going to crash it and will then run with full processor load in the background, only a kill command will stop it)
