Change colors and background in logo

Asked by Bill Jaenicke

I have a two-color logo (indigo blue and aqua) in svg format. The colors work well when printed or embroidered on a white (or light) background. However, I would like to create a version to print or embroider on a dark background (such as dark blue). I am brand new to Inkscape and will eventually get through all the documentation and tutorials, but in the meantime I'd a like a quick solution. I'd like the part of the logo that is currently being rendered in Indigo Blue to be rendered in White. Of course, it becomes invisible when viewed on a white backdrop.

Is there a way to change the "backdrop" to a check pattern -- something that won't actually print but would allow me to see the text and other part of the graphic when I change it to a white color?

I'd be happy to include the svg file but can't find a way to do that or to copy an image here.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Bill,

checkerboard pattern is a new feature in the next Inkscape version. You can, however, change the background color via the document settings (File -> Document properties -> first tab, bottom right: Background color).

This color will be exported to png, and I think it may also be printed, but it will not be visible if you use the svg itself.

You can easily change it back to its default value when you are done editing.

Kind Regards,
 Maren
