Hi John,

this cannot be changed at Inkscape level, but must be changed at system level. The problem is common on Linux systems. It has to do with the selected theme and compatibility with KDE/Gnome apps, as far as I understand.

What worked for other applications that exhibited that problem (digikam for me) (if indeed you are a Linux user) was to activate the compatibilty mode for Gnome / KDE on startup. If you're on Linux Mint, like me, you can find those in the settings at 'session and startup' (or similar), last tab.

Hope this helps, if not, please give some more info about the system / desktop environment / theme you are using.

Kind regards,
 Maren

Hi John,

Maybe these threads will help you then:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=197071
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355540

If you want to do some more research, you will need to know that Inkscape is currently using GTK2 (which makes it a gnome app, which you are running under KDE, so there may be some tweaking necessary).

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Hi Maren
Solved it, thanks to Ronnie Tucker. His solution was Appearance ->
Colors -> Options: Disable "Apply colors to no-QT-applications" I then
had to reboot, including restarting Inkscape for it to work.
Thanks for your help
Best wishes
John
