Changing the file size so I can e-mail my work.

Asked by Cailin Audrey

I created my Resume in Inkscape. All text nothing too fancy, no background ect, but when I saved it as a pdf, so it would be compatible with most companies computers, it is way too big to e-mail something like1265k! I keep getting mailer deamons back saying that my file is too big and can't be sent. Is there any way to make the file size smaller, or can I save it as something else that would still be compatible with most companies computers?

which version of inkscape are you using? im assuming 0.46... also what OS
are you running?

it sounds like text is being converted to paths before export to PDF... easy
way to check if this is the case is to try to select the text in your PDF
reader...

when you export a PDF, does a dialog box appear?
if it does, in that box, there should be a checkbox for "convert text to
paths" make sure that is not checked.

Okay So I created my resume and then I Went to save as, scroll down to PDF in the drop down menu box and that is it. It doesn't bring up another box or anything. Should I be going somewhere eles instead of save as or save? the only " export" button I have is under file: Export Bitmap.

Thank you for you help with this.

here is what i do:

save as
choose "PDF via cairo" as the filetype.
and the dialog comes up...

it kinda sounds like you are still using 0.45.1
to check which version you are using go to help > about inkscape.

Okay so I am using Inkscape .45 sorry I didn't realize. SO I only have an option for PDF nothing comes up that says Cairo. Should I start all over again? Do you think there is a better program? Should I copy into a different document and try saving all over again? let me know when you get a chance.

the PDF support in 0.45 was fairly basic...

i suggest upgrading to 0.46 PDF support was much improved...

I downloaded the newest version of inkscape. Redid my resume and saved it as a PDF. It is still too big to send to most job allpication sites which is worry some but I will manage. Thank you for your help and your time in trying to come up with a good answer for me. Thank you.
