Hi Ursulo,

there are several reasons why a dialog doesn't open:

1. It's minimized. Look into the dock area at the right. Is there a tiny icon/text, which symbolizes the missing dialog? Click on it to maximize.

2. It's already open in the dock. Look into the dock at the right, you may need to scroll down to see it.

3. You're using a multi-monitor setup on OS/X. See
http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=18362
and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1244397

4. Something else, see
www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=20373

Hope this helps - if none of these help, please report back.

Kind regards,
 Maren

What is the dock area that is minimized? When I click trace bitmap, am I supposed to maximize the widow that appears?

Please take a look at the screenshot in this forum thread to find a shot of the dock:
http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=20373

If you are using the dialog for the first time, it should not be necessary to maximize it. If you have minimized it by clicking on the small triangle in the dialog's top row the last time you used it, then you will need to maximize it actively to get it back.

Kind regards,
 Maren

It is difficult to be certain, but...

You report not seeing a preview ("but, I do not see a preview in the window before closing it") in the dialogue.

Do you have the image selected, when running Trace Bitmap...?

Not seeing a preview may suggest the problem is not due to a minimised dialogue, or no dialogue appearing.

When running Trace Bitmap, how I do select the image? I open the Inkscape software, then, I open the image from my documents, etc?

An image is selected by default when it is first imported, but may become de-selected. Left-click on the image with the selection tool to set the image target for Trace Bitmap, and you should be OK.

Can you help with this problem?
