selected objects are unfilled

Asked by Bruce Clothier

I open a new document. I select 'rectangle', but the shape is blank ( no colour) and the 'o' handles are separated. I click on the file and the 'rectangle' disappears.

Please check whether the object opacity (see the 'O' setting in the status bar) and fill/stroke transparency (alpha) settings of the created objects ('A' slider in the Fill&Stroke dialog) are > 0.

These opacity/transparency values are taken from the 'last style used' and could currently be set to '0' depending on the last edited / created objects. Sometimes - after having edited a gradient (colors or opacity of the gradient stops) on-canvas - its opacity value is picked up by the global desktop style (last style used).

Hello and many thanks. You're absolutely right; it was the opacity set to 0.
I found the answer in the mass of emails after carefully sifting through,
but
I'd already sent the question because none of the topics looked relevant.
Theres a lot to learn about this software!
Regards
Bruce
