Hi Paul,

I think you mean how to edit a path, not how to use an 'edit path', I don't think those exist in Inkscape.

See here for more info: http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Paths-Editing.html

To learn how to trace a bitmap image automatically, please look at the tutorial inside Inkscape (Help -> Tutorials).

For a tip on tracing a bitmap manually, visit our FAQ here: https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#How_to_convert_raster_(%22bitmap%22)_images_to_vector_(SVG)

Regards,
 Maren

Thanks. Helpful. Is there a way I can edit a scanned pdf in Inkscape? I want to clean up the sloppy pdf lines from my drawing but can't seem to isolate just the parts I want instead of the whole document. Thanks!

A scanned pdf does not contain vector data, only bitmap data.

So you either need to use the trace bitmap feature for automatic tracing, trace the bitmap by hand, or use an editor for bitmap images, like The Gimp for this task.

Inkscape has *some* bitmap image editing functionalities, but cleaning up lines (or 'retouching') is not one of them, as far as I know.

To learn more about the difference between vector and bitmap data, take a look at the beginning of our FAQ.

Can you help with this problem?
