problems with saving svg to pdf

Asked by Jono Everett

Hi
Sometimes (and only sometimes) I save an SVG to a pdf and, the saved file is large. When you open the pdf is takes a while to 'redraw' the image and , if I zoom in the reader will crash. Long term problem...have tried everything ...any ideas?

Hi Jono,

could you try to use another pdf reader and check if the problem is specific to the one you used? Sometimes it's also the reader which has the bug ;)

If it happens with other pdf readers, too, could you make a bug report, so you can attach those files and someone can take a look at them?
We need to know:
- your Inkscape version
- your operating system version
- what did you use to install Inkscape from (which file did you download?)
- the svg and the pdf
- which pdf viewers you used to display the pdf

Regards,
 Maren

Hi Maren,
Thanks for your help.
I have had this problem for years and have just lived with it. Often I save
a SVG to pdf for emailing and the receiver has had problems opening the
files.
I have opened the files in foxit (latest version) and reader (latest
version) which is even worse, cant open the file at all. I am wondering if
it is possible it comes back to the layers I am using, or perhaps that i
have cur and paste form other Inkscape drawings. I have noticed this rarely
happens if i am stating an image anew. It happens when there is a fair bit
of info in the drawing and I feel I need to'flatten' the image(?) to reduce
the file size for the pdf...all speculation
I will file a bug report
Cheers
