Unable to see rectangle when I draw

When I select the rectangle tool it first drew a blue line around the items I was enclosing in the rectangle so that I could judge the size of the rectangle. Now it shows me only dotted lines and I can not see the size until I release...it is like a selection rectangle and it does not draw the line.

Hi Clif,

probably your rectangle is just transparent or its fill and stroke are not set.

Try to set the fill to a flat color with A (alpha) at 255 (or 100, whichever is the maximum) and opacity to 100%.

You can use the shortcut Shift + Ctrl + F to display the fill and contour dialog.

If the problem remains, look into your inkscape settings for the rectangle tool and set the style to the style last used.
