Adding EggBot extension manually

Asked by Shab Levy

I am using the Egg-Bot device which utilizes Inkscape as the software to create vector drawings. The makers of this device claim that when downloading a certain Windows installer, it already has the Egg-Bot extensions and the installer is supposed to install such extension in Inkspace. It does not!

Although I am able to download the Egg-Bot extension OK, I would like to know how to manually install it in the extensions of Inkscape.

Thank you for any help.

Hi Shab,
We have not received any other recent reports of problems with the Windows installer. Other than this report, we do have every reason to believe that it is working properly.

The software installation instructions for the EggBot are posted here:

http://wiki.evilmadscientist.com/Installing_software#Windows

The instructions advise you to use a particular installer for the EggBot Extensions:
https://code.google.com/p/eggbotcode/downloads/list?q=label:Featured+Windows

(Note that there are installers for both the EBB *driver* and separately, for the Inkscape extensions.)

The installer requires that your copy of Inkscape is located at: (Program files)\Inkscape\

If you run the installer and it does not work, or if you run the installer and it claims to work but (after re-starting Inkscape) the extensions do not appear in the Extensions menu, then it is likely that either your copy of Inkscape is not in the Program Files directory, or that you have multiple copies of Inkscape on your computer, and you are not opening the "right" one.

If you really can't get the installer to work, we do really want to hear about it, and hope that we can find a solution. However, the documentation listed above does also include manual installation instructions, where you download a different package, and install the contents to (Program files)\Inkscape\share\extensions\ (and restart Inkscape).

Please let me know if this helps.

Windel,

Thank you very much. After a couple of attempts, the EggBot now works. I
have not used it in a long time and meanwhile I switched computers, so
had I lost all the original documentation.

Thanks again,

Windell,

Thank you very much for the help. The Egg-Bot works...again after many years of sitting on the shelf. I had switched computers and lost all documentation and software. But all's well now.

I am tempted by your large Egg-Bot and may add it to my "toys" one of these days. Will it work with the same software that I know have installed properly on my computer? (Windows 7)

Great-- glad to hear it.

(And yes, all EggBots use the same software.)
