I think superscripts were added in version 0.48 (iirc). (The current stable version is 0.48.4) With the Text tool engaged, look on the control bar for the superscript button.

Thank you Brynn, I have had this version for a while but I cannot see where
it tells me which version it is. Silly me, I was looking in the text
dropdown. However, if I use the button the whole text goes superscript. Say
I wanted to write A squared, how do I keep the A normal and make the 2
superscript? I am usually pretty good at figuring this out on my own but
this one is eluding me. I have "cheated" in the past by writing the formula
and adding the superscript as a separate text but when I save it, it
resizes and becomes misaligned, so I really would like to do it properly.
To be honest, I feel a bit of an idiot asking. LOL. Normally I cope quite
well and love using Inkscape. If you are interested, I enclose an example of
music formatting done entirely on Inkscape, and one of the Formula Pentacle
that I am having difficulty with. If you like that sort of thing, there are
many images I have done entirely with Inkscape on my "Decahedron Void"
Facebook page under photos.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Much love, Dec <3

Same as if you wanted to make the "2" bold : write it, then _select it_, and click on the "superscript" icon ^^

And you can check the version in Help menu > About Inkscape

That's a nice....I think it's called a staff, maybe....anyway, the music notes are nice. But I would think there must be better ways to write music, than using Inkscape. Well I guess not necessarily better, but easier?

Anyway, Mc has your answer :-)

Mc, thank you very much for your answer, perfect. Duh, now I do feel
stupid, so simple but not the way text edit works. lol. I will post my
result here when done :)

Brynn, thank you for that. This is for concert harp ( a pianist would have
known something was wrong with one glance at the key signature which no
music program will do, but makes perfect sense for a harp) and there are
about 50 subtly different ways to play a single note, most of which cannot
be done on any music editor I have found. Also, there is a great deal of
satisfaction making it entirely mine, looking just the way I want rather
than being victim of an automation and it only takes a few hours of happy
tinkering. Once all the glyphs are created, it is just a matter of
Duplicate and move (Copy and Paste does not seem to work on my version). I
enclose an example of one of my bezier curves.

Thank you both so much for your help
