Inkscape

cannot find file dxf2svg

Asked by Alvin Penner

would like to import dxf files, get a message saying
"dxf2svg may come with Inkscape, but is also at http://dxf-svg-convert.sourceforge.net/"
the link to the sourceforge file appears to be broken.
the best that I can find is a reference to a rather old perl script dxf2svg

Is there a preferred version of this file available currently?

Hi Alvin,

A C++ version of dxf2svg is available integrated into Inkscape 0.46. You can download an alpha release of Inkscape from the inkscape.org homepage.

Bryce,

You mentioned that Inkscape 0.46 has dxf2svg integrated.
I have Inkscape 0.46 and its documentation.
Neither the open or import process of Inkscape 0.46 have the file extension .dxf as a choice.

Do you know how to open a .dxf file in Inkscape, would you share that with me?

Hello Terry,
    To the best of my knowledge, this feature is not available currently in Inkscape.
    You might want to check out the project Kabeja, which does this conversion, http://sourceforge.net/projects/kabeja .
    I tried this out myself a few months ago and it worked reasonably well. However, that was offline, not as part of Inkscape, I think probably from a DOS prompt.
