Canon Pixma IP4200 driver incompatibility

Asked by Liam K

The problem below is with Version 48.2. Version 46 is the latest version without the issue.

The printer support Automatic Duplex printing. (paper is flipped over by the printer, rather than the user)

Printing to letter size (8.5 x 11 inches)

Popup "A paper size that is not supported by the automatic duplex printing function is selected"

"Stop printing, uncheck Automatic on the Page Setup tab of the printer driver, then print again."

followed by two input option buttons: "OK" or "Cancel Printing"

Experimenting further I see that "Custom..." appears in the page size option window. In the printer info window on the left side of the printer's preference page "Plain Paper Custom .... 8.5x11in" is shown. If I select the Page Size option "Letter" from the list one copy will print ( even if more than one copy is selected).

It seems that versions of InkScape following 46 are not compatible with the printer driver for the Canon Pixma IP4200.

You seem to already have reported this as bug (same user name, different launchpad id):

Bug #715293 “Version 48 Printer driver incompatible with Canon IP4200”
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/715293>

Could you update the report with any new details you might have since filing the bug report in February?
As far as I am aware there is no known workaround for the issue.

Could be related to an upstream bug as detailed in
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/491231/comments/8>

Yes, I did report the bug for an earlier build of 48. Didn't recall
what I wrote back then. The issue appears to be identical. InkScape 48
doesn't initially use the Canon Global printer preference selection
"letter", but "custom 8.5x11". Or, use the Canon automatic duplexing,
or how to print multiple pages. Version 46 has no problem with the
Canon driver.

I've not found a workaround or new details to add.
