Asked by toaster

I cannot paste something into Inkscape without it crashing. I have installed and uninstalled. Is it because of Windows 7 and there is no 64 bit program yet?

What you should do is load a file. Just save it as a picture. See if that works. If not, go to this link and download the express addition.

http://www.microsoft.com/express/Downloads/#2008-Visual-CPP

If that doesn't work, then you should use windows update. (as terrible a thing as it is)
And, being an Ubuntu person, I feel obliged to recommend you try this on the Operating System it was intended for, Ubuntu Linux.

Saving as a picture worked. I'm not very computer savvy so thanks for the help.

@toaster - if you want to paste an image from the clipboard, it is best to save the new Inkscape document before pasting (the crash is caused because Inkscape tries to save the content of the clipboard to a file (PNG) - to then link the image into the current SVG drawing - to a location the user doesn't have permission to write)

This bug will be fixed in the next release (and already is fixed in the current development snapshots).
