saving bug

Hi there. I am running Inkscape 0.47 in Windows XP professional. When I try to save my file, nothing seems to happen at all. No window appears, nothing. So I tried typing in my file name and hitting enter, even though I literally am not typing into anything I can see. I saves my file, which I can reopen. But because of this issue, I can only save in SVG format. No window, no dropdowns, so therefore no other saving options. Am I doing something wrong?
