Issue with optimizer or control points

Asked by Nicolás Lovey

When i optimize using "everything without translation" the images wont blend seamlessly. Instead they have distortion or alignment issues, sometimes very severe. This happens when i'm using hugin 2018.0.0.5abfb4de7961 on Ubuntu 18.04, but when i use the same images with Hugin 2017 on windows, the results are perfect with the same parameters.
In the Fast Panorama Preview on Hugin 2018 on Ubuntu it appears that some control points are displaced from one image to another, but also that doesn't happen on Hugin 2017 on windows.
I put the default preferences, but that didn't change anything.

This is a very vague description. Can you limit it a little bit more?
Checking if the control points are right should be easy.

Or can you provide a small sample (2-3 images with pto file) which shows the problem?

Sorry for the poor explanation, but i'm not an expert in hugin, and also not very good english speaker.
I'm using Hugin since 2010, and i always follows the same procedure:

  1. In the Photos tab i create control points
  2. I optimize with Positions (Incremental....)
  3. In the Fast Preview, i align the panorama, and delete control points in sky, water, etc when necessary.
  4. I optimize again With Everyting Without Translation, and most of the time y have almost perfect results.

I attached three photos, and for the same photos, two .pto: one done with hugin 2017 in Win7, with perfect stitch, and the other with hugin 2018 in Ubuntu 18.04, in witch if i do the step 4, the panorama becomes completely distorted.

I followed the exact same procedure with the two .pto, and the results are completely different. The only thing that changed is the Hugin version and the OS.

I'm not seeing the files attached in this site, although have attached them by mail. Is there another way to link them?

The cause for the distortions is easy. On Ubuntu you have set the lens projection to cylindrical instead of the correct rectilinear.

Either you set the projection to cylindrical after loading the images (add images..) or you did it some time ago and Hugin stored this information in its lens database. The easiest fix is to delete the database file. In Help>About you will find the filename of the camera/lens database file. Remember the name, close Hugin and delete the file. When you now add images to a new project file it should work again (Deleting the file does not affect existing projects.)
