printer drivers for HP Deskjet 2420/2480

Asked by Alastair Mackinnon

Recently aquired Ubuntu 9.04.

Present Printer is Lexmark x1100. Found no support.

Considering local aquisition. Perhaps one of following

HP Deskjet 2420 or 2480, Canon MP270 or Canon Pixma MP240.

Want to be sure of buying one that will work in all modes. The above may be too new for drivers to arrive yet?

Thanks

Alastair Mackinnon

Refer link for the supported printers in the below link that are supported by HPLIP.

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/supported_devices/combined.html

Are you looking for DeskJet F2420 model support? If yes, than this is new driver support. We are hoping to provide support for this printer model in the next release of HPLIP. Although, we can't promise support will be provided it's our intention that it will be supported. Release may be happening in the next several weeks depending on if we find any issues that prevent that.

Thanks,

A

Hi,
I recently buy a DeskjetF2420 and I tryed to install it with the hplip driver (I am on ARCHLinux distro).
Unfortunatly, like you said here https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/86310 , the printer is not supported:
# hp-setup
...
-----------------
| USB I/O SETUP |
-----------------

Checking for permissions of USB attached printers...

HP Device 0x7611 at 001:004:
    Device URI: hp:/usb/Deskjet_F2400_series?serial=CN98C162WJ05BS
error: Unsupported model: Deskjet_F2400_series
...

With some hack of the file /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat and the install of hpoj, I was able to use the scanner but not to print.
Is there a way to tweek the models.dat file to support this printer ?

I hope the new version of hplip driver will be soon available :)

Thanks.
