Back page of duplex print is upside down on Officejet 8500 no matter if "long edge" or "short edge" is selected.

Asked by crazysubguy

Whenever I select duplex printing all the backside pages print out upside down. I've tried selecting both "short-edge" and "long-edge" but nothing changes. Its as if the "short-edge" setting is hard coded in.

I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 and HPLIP 3.9.8.

Please go to "Print Settings" Tab Under "HP Device Manager"
Go to "General" Options
Please Set "2-Sided Printing" attribute's Value to "Long-Edge Binding" instead of "Short-Edge Binding"

Thanks for Supporting HPLIP,
Naga Samrat.

Thanks for the reply. However, as stated in the original question, I already have the "long-edge" binding attribute set both as the default in the HP Device Manager and in the dialogue box when printing.

In the HP Device Manager there are two places to specify "long-edge." One is as you directed under "General" and the other is under "Basic" where there is an option for Duplex(print on both sides of the page) that I have set to "long-edge"

After double checking both those settings as well as the same settings in the dialogue box when printing, the second page still prints upside down.

Please run hp-check -t and post the output.

Whats the document used for printing? Please try out different applications (like pdf document , gedit .etc..) and confirm whether behavior is across applications. If possible , attach the document used for printing.

Thanks,

A

I've attached the test files I've been using. I tested the *.doc with Open
Office and with MS Office (wine) and the results are the same: Back page is
upside down when set on long-edge. (The print seems to be shifted down as
well cutting the bottom 0.5 cm off as well on both front and back pages --
This does not occur when duplex is turned off.)

I turned the same document into a pdf and printed out using both adobe
reader and document viewer. Document viewer does not allow me to select
duplex and adobe reader has the same results as Open Office and MS Office.

Here is the output from hp-check -t

I attached the two files to the previous message in the email, but they don't show up in the thread. I don't see any options here to attach files.

I've tried to replicate the same on Ubuntu 8.10 with different printer model. Printing does seem to be working correctly with OpenOffice document. However , while printing i needed to change the printer properties again.

Below are the steps followed:
(a) Click File - Print menu of an open office document.
(b) Select the correct printer model and click properties.
(c) On the paper tab , select the long-edge binding as an option for duplex.
(d) print the document

Can you please try out the same once again and let me know the results.

Thanks,

A

See Bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/551239
My Officejet Pro 8500 WLAN is printing the backside mirrored and upside down. (Fdora F12) seems to be a similar Problem?! (For hp-check see bug #551239 )

Btw. I allready tried different Programms and different settings (setting long side in printing dialog, cups and hplip ... that doesn't effect the printers output. As described in the bug, The Version 3.9 didn't had that problem.

Can you help with this problem?
