Systeminfo: openSUSE 11.1
Printer: HPLJ 5 (over Network with HP JetDirect) and 2300d (over Network - Longshine PrintPort TCP/IP-LPT1)
Printing directly to IP with socket://<IP>:515 (Port depending on printer) -The prot can be determined with nmap <IP>

Worked with openSUSE 11.0 and all before!

The printer in a test from YaST print installation receives data and then the printer has to be switched off to reset, as it is can not be printed on from anywhere then.

When printing with other *.PPD drivers, the printer shoes data received everything and goes back onto Ready. Prints nothing

#### libgphoto2.la can not be found with YaST with all installation repos installed

#### To use hp-check -t I had to de- and re-install it:

hp-check -t

The program 'hp-check' can be found in following packages:
  * hplip [ path: /usr/bin/hp-check, repository: zypp (OpenSUSE_11.1_(Local_ISO)) ]
  * hplip [ path: /usr/bin/hp-check, repository: zypp (repo-oss) ]
  * hplip [ path: /usr/bin/hp-check, repository: zypp (repo_6) ]

Try installing with: sudo zypper install hplip

~> sudo zypper install hplip

The packages that you are looking for are:

libtool
libgphoto2-devel

This should meet the requirement for libjphoto2. We do test the automatic installer on Suse 11.1 and haven't seen this problem. Make sure you can access the internet and that your YaST repositories are current.

Hope this helps.

It worked with installing libgphoto2-devel. Why does in not get tested for as dependency?

What now? I still can not install my printer. Which driver from the list?

hp-check -r still says : "warning: Printer is not HPLIP installed. Printers must use the hp: or hpfax: CUPS backend to function in HPLIP." even after installing the *.run

The stated "PPD: /etc/cups/ppd/HPLIP.ppd" can not be found on the system anywhere.

Could you just tel me where the HPLIP.ppd is, or could you send it to me please.

The Device URI Model
  -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------
  hp:/usb/Deskjet_F4100_series?serial=CN7CI4T02Q04TJ HP Deskjet F4100 series

works well.

I need a working PPD for the HP LaserJet 5. The existing ones do not work anymore since a recent openSUSE update. I cannot say what changed, but the PPD's for this printer does not work anymore.

There isn't one ppd that works for all printers. You'll have to use the ppd for the device (not hplip.ppd).

So to be clear, you go the Deskjet F4100 installed? What happens when you connect the LaserJet 5 and run hp-setup?

Yes, the Deskjet F4100 was installed with the KDE application "system-config-printer 1.0.8" before hplip was installed.
The LaserJet 5 also worked before I installed hplip.

HPLIP installation from source all worked; then refused to work with hp-setup.

Running hp-setup with both printers on and connected (DeskJet on USB and LaserJet's JetDirect on switch) I now get:
error: HPMUDEXT could not be loaded. Please check HPLIP installation.

But I just did configure, make clan, make and make install without any errors! Previously I even got hp-setup to recognise the DeskJet (see above in previous posts in this thread).

I de-installed all HP stuff and the printers, and rebooted (like in the old Windows days - the only way I seem to be able to get rid of the HP software's influence). Thereafter I used "system-config-printer 1.0.8" to install the printers.

Now all is fine again without HPLIP and the standard PPD files for "HP LaserJet 5M Postscript (recommended)" JetDirect & "HP Deskjet F4100 series" USB.

Neither the YaST HPLIP, nor the source from this site seem to work on my system (system config posted in the second post above). Pity.

The HPMUDEXT error is generally caused when there are more than 1 versions of python installed. We have tested the installer on Suse 11.1 and haven't had any of the issues you are finding.

If you wanted to troubleshoot the HPMUDEXT issue you can look over this document here:

Hope this helps.
