What type of diagnotics can I provide to assist with this problem?

Please run hp-check -t and post the output.

Also run sudo tail -f /var/log/syslog

and keep that running until the error and post the entire log.

Here is the outpt of hp-check -t. I see there are a number of missing dependencies listed below. I will repost after I have installed all of them.
