Hello Steve,
I am disinclined to address your issue in an HPLIP context. Here is
a procedure that has worked very successfully for many Mint 20
users using USB:
Download and install sane-airscan and ipp-usb from
https:/
A direct link to the files you want is
https:/
Re-power and re-plug before testing. Printing should be auto-setup when the device is
pluuged in. If not, we can sort that later.
I would be very interested in what you get for
scanimage -L
airscan-discover
avahi-browse -rt _ipp._tcp
avahi-browse -rt _uscan._tcp
Cheers,
Brian.
Hi Brian,
Thank you for offering to help.
When I tried to install 'sane-airscan' I gotthe message that the same
package was already installed.
When I tried to install the 'ipp-usb' file I got the message "error
conflicts with the installed package 'ippusbxd'" — so I did not install
it. Should I install it anyway?
Regards,
Steve

You must have installed it yourself because it does not come with Mint.
Not important - as long as it is there.

ippusbxd should be removed when ipp-usb is installed. However, to be
certain it is taken off the system, you can do
apt purge ippusbxd
before installing ipp-usb.
Hi Brian,
Thank you! This worked. It prints better and the scanner actually works
now. I really appreciate your help.
I will go reply to this question that it's been solved.
Thanks again,
Steve

No problem, Steve. Thanks.
Should you wish to know what lies behind what you have done, please read the
IPP-over-USB sections at
https:/
Thanks again,
Brian.
Hi Brian,
Everything was working good. The I tried to scan a document into a
program called Paperwork. Now none of my scanning programs work. Here is
what the Paperwork program told me to do:
*******
No scanner found
You use Paperwork from a Flatpak container. Paperwork needs Saned to
access your scanners. To enable Saned on the host system, you can use
the following commands:
sudo apt install sane-utils
sudo sh -c "echo 127.0.0.1 >> /etc/sane.
sudo systemctl enable saned.socket
sudo systemctl start saned.socket
Paperwork program: https:/
*******
I was wondering if this is something you would be good enough to help me
out with?
As you see below I still have a link to the file I downloaded last time,
but I can't find the instructions on how to install it.
Thank you,
Steve

This question was expired because it remained in the 'Open' state without activity for the last 15 days.
The printer/scanner was working. Anytime I wanted to use it the printer, I had to close everything out and reboot the computer. Then I discovered if I turned the printer off, I can use it the next time, as long as I didn't reboot the computer before I turned it back on. It hasn't been reliable, but today it won't work at regardless of rebooting/ complete shut down, restart printer, etc... nothing is working.
If anyone can help me with this I'd sure appreciate it.
