Error in manual installation process of hplip

Earlier I tried to download HPLIP 3.20.3 using Automatic Installer, but it gave an error. I didn't proceed furthur.

I was suggested that manual installation would be better.I tried to download HPLIP following the steps given in the page :
 https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/install/manual/distros/ubuntu

I run the commands given for Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) and above, it ran till step 4 and in step 5 showed error message.

swati@Swati-PC:~/Desktop/hplip-3.12.6$ make
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

Also when I ran the command dpkg -l hplip, this showed that I have installed v3.20.3

My printer model name is HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 5075 All-in-One Printer, is connected via USB to the PC.
I am getting confused. I want to uninstall the installed and properly install it again.
 How should I proceed?

I am unable to use the installed HPLIP . It showed printer in GUI but always showed red cross on the right top of that printer logo.
Kindly tell me what and how should I do it.

Are you getting any error on terminal after opening hp-toolbox?

No the hplip toolbox opening prperly but showing a red cross on the top of printer logo, and showing notification

But printer is powered on and idle at that point.

When I tried to scan it said "unable to scan" "Failed to find the printer", also from printer too I am not able to scan as its showing install HP scanning software for your computer.

I want to totally uninstall whatever i installed and then reinstalling hplip 3.20.6 .
How to permanently uninstall the installed ?

I have unintsallted all hplip packages i could find. Just guide me on how to install hplip 3.20.6 manually on my pc.
I am using Linux mint 20 cinnamon.
