Can you provide more information related to which HPLIP version you're using and which distro.

Hi Anam

Distro is Mint Cinnamon 19.3

and HPLIP is 3.17.10+repack 0-5.

However, when try to call up HPLIP, no entry found???
Have reinstalled and still not present.

Possibly older printer needs older version of LIP? Possibly error is because can't contact server??

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hi ,

Please install latest HPLIP driver 3.20.3 from the below link:

https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip

and install the run file using below command:

$sh hplip-3.20.3.run

After the installation, run hp-setup and connect your printer using USB.

If you still face any issue, please let me know.

Hello Shivani

Thanks for sending the link.

When I tried to download into text editor, I received the message telling me the file contained some invalid characters, hence could not be opened. Is there a preferred character encoding? I used automatic.

Sorry, more info. I don't think the problem is which build of HPLIP I have. Even with 3.20.3 I'm still unable to connect to server, thus cannot continue with setup.
Could this be firewall or router issue?

Thanks

Clare

Hello

The problem is still unsolved. I'd appreciate more help.
Regardless of if use HPLIP driver 3.17.10+repack 0-5. or 3.20.3, still receive same error. That none of the four DDP files open, when selected.
As a Linux beginner, I may be doing something wrong, but would appreciate help to get printer set up.
Also, CUPS file not responding in either driver version. Thus can't connect to server.
Have tried removing and reloading CUPS, still no progress.

1. Your other question probably was https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/689776
You can find your unexpired questions on https://answers.launchpad.net/~

2. You mentionen DDP, what is that? Do you mean PPD?

3. Access to the PPD files requires mebership of the lp (line printer) group. Are you member of that group?
What is the ouput of the command
groups

4. Which operating system are you running?

5. If the cups server cannot be started, then this can be caused by wrong contents of the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf configuration file. Have you modified it?

Sorry, PPD.
From groups command, lpadmin option showing.
OS is Linux mint 19.3 cinnamon
Ran get-remove for CUPS to try fresh install. It's currently showing as rc removed but configuration files still present and could not purge for complete re installation.
Do you advise complete remove and reinstall from package manager?

Am also trying to run printer non- networked (USB to one PC only).

The groups lpandmin and lp are different!
Access right on PPD files need that you are member of lp

Can you help with this problem?
