Am warned that downloading hplip-3.18.7 may harm my computer

Asked by Opeoluwa Shonekan

On attempting to download LIP-3.18.7 onto my DELL 5520, I always receive a warning that it could harm my computer. Therefore I take evasive action by clicking on the 'problems downloading' icon. After successful downloading in this manner, I then double click to run the program. Alas, just before the run is complete, I receive another error message that informs me that there are errors in the program. Am also warned at this time that I should not edit it, but that I could retry running. Of course nothing works subsequently. Please advise urgently and accordingly.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Download and installation of hplip driver should not cause any harm to your Linux system. Please download the HPLIP driver from the below mentioned path:
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip

If you face any issues in the installation, please share the error details along with the distro name and version.
Thanks,

Thanks very much for responding, but am sure that you can appreciate the
fact that if my system alerts me to the fact that downloading the
hplip-3.18.7 driver could damage it, I would be unwise to ignore it.
What I chose to do instead is to click on the 'downloading issues' icon. I
then click on the download link provided. Under these conditions, the
download proceeds as expected. However, I find that the driver ( written in
Python code) fails to run.
Kindly investigate this area.
Thanks very much in advance.
