Deleted HP printer by mistake. Compter says No Printer. How to get back help needed.

Asked by Marj Morton

I had my curser over the ' -' in the printer section of 'All Settings" and my cat jumped in my lap inadvertently deleting my printer. I have an HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-one. I have tried everything I can to get it back but my computer does not recognize that there is a printer attached. I am using a USB CABLE rather than wireless. All I get is "no printers detected" when I try to add a printer. Please can someone help me?

Hi Marj,

Please enter the command lsusb in the terminal and check whether the printer is getting detected or not. If it is connected you can see a number format like 03X0:X91a Hewlett-Packard.
If you are not able to see this ID then there is a problem in your USB connection.

Also after installing the driver successfully , type hp-setup in your terminal to setup your printer.

Go through the following link to know to setup your printer :

Thank you so much.  I was perplexed because I kept trying to use the
setup wizard and it would not work.   Last night at 1:30 am EDT, I
finally called my internet provider and asked them to check the password
on my router.   For some reason someone there had changed my password
(probably because I have a hard wired system as someone was using my
internet WIFI).  They did not tell me they had done this so I kept
entering and rechecking and entering my old password.   Once they
changed it back to my old password, everything worked fine.  I really
appreciate you going to the trouble you did and will copy and print your
email to me and file it away....just in case something like this ever
happens again.

Have a wonderful holiday season Afshan and thank you again.

Afshan, thank you so much for your help. I sent an email explaining what happened. I shall keep your instructions in case this happens again. I do wish internet providers would notify one when they change a password. I asked for a hard wired system as someone was using my internet connection and logging in way more time than I do. I guess they just changed the password thinking that I'd never have to use it. When I contacted them last night at 1:30 am....they changed it back to what I had and the WIFI Wizard on my HP printer did the rest. I wish I'd know at 4:10 pm when it happened. I did everything I could and finally went to Ubuntu one. The prompt response was wonderful.
