What is supposed to happen after "build complete"?

Asked by keys2heaven

Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 6)
Kernel 2.6.9-67.ELsmp on an i686

Downloaded auto installer. Only wanted to install printing only, so selected 'p'. However, I got no reboot required or any such message after the "build complete" message. What now? I can't run the hp-setup command.

Here is the output of the install session.

$ sh hplip*.run

[root@hci-infstr1 bin]# ls /usr/bin/hp-*
ls: /usr/bin/hp-*: No such file or directory
[root@hci-infstr1 bin]#

There are no files in that directory matching hp-*
There is no /etc/init.d/hplip as well.

The install did not complete. Why?

Also the install does NOT support Red Hat 4. More than likely the configure is not correct for Red Hat 4.

For this distro you must use the manual install instructions;

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/redhatenterprise.html

I have no idea why the installer actually worked however--more than likely you installed the HPLIP dependencies before running the installer?

Also run:

ls -l /usr/share/hplip

and post the output...

Well not sure what happened--but you may want to try re-installing using the RHEL4 steps.

Perhaps because of --enable-hpijs-only-build
he didn't get the hp-* tools?

I never tried to use in configure
  --enable-gui-build
together with
 --enable-hpijs-only-build
so that I don't know what this should result
(I only used --enable-hpijs-only-build on its own).

Can you help with this problem?
