redhat 5.2 installation default to usb as only connection type

Asked by al 010

run sh hplip2.8.12.run (and other old versions)

During install it tell me missing optional 8 dependencies:

libnetsnmp-devel
pyqt4
python-ctypes
python-dbus
cups-ddk

I was able to do install of sane-devel thru yum install. But the other packages I could not get since yum whatprovides tells me that there are no such packages.

Do you have valid installer for redhat 5.2 client?

As is, the installer only looks at USB connected printer. The "network" connection type is unavailable in the HP Device Manager.....

I've been meaning to update the Red Hat 5 install instructions but haven't been able to yet. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get that done in the next month or so. Until then you can look at this document for some hints:

Hope this helps.

I am able to install this hplip software. But, the BUG is that the network-type connection of this software does not work.

i did try the ln -s /usr/lib64/libnetsnmp.so /usr/lib/libnetsnmp.so

got error "File exists"

What I have is a network printer?

Looking at your hp-check it appears HPLIP was installed with network disabled. You'll want to install the snmp packages and re-install HPLIP again.

You may want to remove your current HPLIP install first.

rm -rf /usr/share/hplip

then when you are running the configure command be sure that network is enabled:

./configure --with-hpppddir=/usr/share/cups/model/HP --prefix=/usr --disable-qt4 --enable-foomatic-ppd-install --enable-doc-build --enable-qt3 --enable-gui-build --disable-foomatic-drv-install --disable-pp-build --enable-network-build --enable-dbus-build --disable-hpijs-only-build --enable-scan-build --enable-fax-build

and be sure that you don't get any errors about snmp. then do the make, su -c "make install"

network support should then be enabled.
