Error in installing hplip on SUSE10.3

Asked by Jim Koehler

I followed the detailed instructions for manually installing hplip. When I get to the 'make' step, it ends with an error saying that there is an undefined reference to 'hpmud_make_par_uri'. I followed the instructions for installing in SUSE 10.3 explicitly, I thought. I have a old but reliable Laserjet 2200D running on a print server. In previous versions of SUSE, I never had a problem with the drivers for this printer. Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim -

I just want to make sure we're on the same page before I delve deeper into this issue. What version of HPLIP are you trying to install on SuSE10.3? We just released 2.8.6 last Friday.

Jim -

I just installed 2.8.6 on my SuSE 10.3 system. I had quite the difficult time accomplishing the manual install, and can sympathize with your frustration. I wound up having to use Yast to install a few necessary packages. I'm working on getting a definitive list, and editing the instructions on the webpage. If you could send me an email here (linus dot araque at gmail dot com) I'd be more than happy to inform you once this is done.

Thank you for supporting HPLIP

I just installed HPLIP 2.8.6 on a clean suse 10.3 using the automatic installer and had no problems. Is it possible to try using the automatic installer? The key is making sure the repos are configured correctly or that the dvd is available.

I'll be working with linus to review the manual install docs.

Hi Aaron,

I first tried the automatic installer and it got hung up with
unresolved references. I changed the repositories to just those
specified in the instructions - still no success.

Hi guys,

I decided to upgrade to openSUSE 11.0 and had some problems with it. I
eventually made a fresh install of openSUSE 10.3 and then had no
difficulty in installing hplip.

I still have one problem with printing. My printer is an (old) HP
Laserjet 2000D. I am unable to set the printer options to allow duplex
mode even though the printer does duplex. There must be a file
somewhere in which the option for duplex is enabled or disabled and it
is likely disabled. I would like to edit this to allow duplex printing,
if possible.

 Thanks,

 JIM

Hey Jim

If you have a duplexer on the device you should be able to turn on duplex printing through the Print Settings tab in Device Manager (hp-toolbox). Other wise you can use the manual duplexing instructions here,

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/howtos/printing.html

Thanks

I downloaded HPLIP_3.9.12 during Feb 2010 and get the same 'undefined hpmud_make_par_uri" error.
I'm building on Ubuntu Jaunty (v9.04) and connecting to an OfficeJet Premier 8500 via wireless network.
Raw Cups and my LAN see the printer fine as did Ubuntu Hardy (v8.04.3 LTS).

I don't know what information you might want about this...

PS/
Prior to the make there was a long list of 'apt-get install' requirements. Some of these had troubles as stated.
I used Synaptic and was able to load a matching library that was newer than the Ubuntu manual install called for.
I believe it stopped with Intrepid (v8.10). ~~~ 8d;-/

Can you help with this problem?
