LaserJet P1505 without non-free plugin

Asked by Daniel Dickinson

Is it possible to install only the firmware and not the non-free code that would run on my computer for the non-free plugin for the HP Laserjet P1505 on HPLIP? I don't mind non-free firmware because it's basically just a cost saver over having a ROM or flash, but non-free code on my computer is verbotten. How do I avoid this and still use my printer with HPLIP?

The plugin is option for the P1505 so you should be able to use the ppd without using the plugin and it should still work correctly.

Hope this helps.

But how do I install the printer in HPLIP without installing the plugin? When the plugin screen comes up, the only option is to download the plugin, or use it from an existing location. The skip plugin option is greyed out.

Can you run hp-setup -g and go through the setup until you get to the plugin dialog and send me the log?

Thanks!

The plugin for P1505 is mandatory. Printer will not work without it.
