How to print photo quality?

Asked by Erik P. Olsen

Whenever I try to print a photo on photo quality paper the printer - an HP Photosmart 8450 - sets an error message on the printer display of: Photo tray is engaged. Disengage it and press OK or cancel the job.

What can I do print it correctly. My OS is Fedora 7.

Regards,
Erik P. Olsen

Erik,

Please run

hp-check -t

and post the output.

Also run hp-toolbox, print settings and be sure that the media source is set correctly.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

I had not previously set the media source correctly. In fact I wasn't sure what
it was. I now have it set as "Photo Tray". Then it prints on the photo paper as
expected. However, even though "Printed Border Around Each Page" is set to "No
border" it does not print borderless. Please see attach scanned copy of the

Erik,

Once the tray is select correctly you have to enable fullbleed printing;

under quality select (for example) "600 dpi, Color Full Bleed, Black + Color Cartr."

Once these are set you still need to ensure that the image is set to the correct size.

See:

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/howtos/printing.html#troubleshooting

For help on making sure the image is sized correctly.

Hope this helps.
